Self-Directed Learning
The Tiger Open Pathway places heavy emphasis on self-directed, project based learning. TOP students’ self-directed passages and learning projects allow them to engage in a method of learning where they gain relevant knowledge and skills by working to investigate and respond to authentic, engaging and complex questions, problems, and/or challenges. Students engaged in self-directed learning meet identified 21st Century skills, and academic content standards while learning through real-life experiences, completion of projects, and active reflection. Students work closely with their advisors to pursue opportunities for learning that may include internships, student planned research excursions, participation in community, state or nationwide events, further classes, etc.
